This project involves the identify, screening of white-rot fungi, evolution of lignin-degrading enzymes, and phyloinformatics. We want to find as many fungi as possible that naturally convert plant cell walls to fermentable sugars or ethyl alcohol. We applied a high-throughput, dilution technique developed for the pharmaceutical industry to cultivating fungi that decompose Dendrocalamus sinicus.
